We can all agree that there should be some rules for how we behave on the road. In some states, however, there are more than a few driving laws that seem pretty absurd. Here are 19 driving laws you won’t believe are actually real.


  1. In Alabama, it is illegal to drive while blindfolded.
  2. Alaska law prohibits you from tethering a dog to the roof of your car.
  3. Lawmakers in Arkansas have made it illegal to honk your car horn where ice cold beverages or sandwiches are served after 9 pm.

  16. In Oregon, you can be ticketed for leaving your car door open longer than is deemed necessary.
  17. In Scituate, Rhode Island, it is illegal to drive with beer in your vehicle even if it’s unopen.
  18. You are prohibited from driving around with trash in your vehicle while in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
  19. In West Virginia, it is perfectly legal to scavenge road kill.
